The military order Havoc! was a signal given to the English military forces in the Middle Ages to direct the soldiery (in Shakespeare’s parlance ‘the dogs of war’) to pillage and chaos.
When Shakespeare wrote the now infamous line, “Cry ‘Havoc’, and let slip the dogs of war,” I doubt he was trying to brain-dump 50,000 words to page in 30 days. Still, I’ll leverage this line as I embark on Nanowrimo in November. I have a few buddies who have also picked up the gauntlet and going to give the keyboard a workout as well.
To each of us, shoulder to virtual shoulder, I say, “Success is ours for the taking! Cry havoc, and let slip the badgers of creativity! Soldier forth and write crap!”
How am I doing?
