NaNOWRIMO 2010 is officially open!

While the National Novel Writing Month (NanNoWriMo) does not officially start until November 1st, the site has gone live for this year’s global participants, including yours truly.

The goal is simple:  Begin writing November 1. Complete a 175-page (50,000-word) novel by midnight, November 30.

Why?  To write without having to obsess over quality. To be able to make obscure references to passages from our novels at parties. To be able to mock real novelists who dawdle on and on, taking far longer than 30 days to produce their work. Count me in!

Fingers poised over the keyboard, I’m waiting for November 1st like an overweight runner waiting for the starting gun at a 10k marathon race.  Which is to say that I have a Twinkie in my mouth and almost no idea what I have gotten myself into.
